Dahl and Meyer Family History of Wisconsin, Holstein and Bavaria
Joseph Detleff Friedrich Dahl was born in Holstein, near the Germany / Danish border, in 1824. Immigrating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1847, he met and, in 1851, married Sophia Meyer, who was born in 1833 in Bavaria. They had Mamie Dahl (1874-1950), who in 1893 married William G Kuntz aka Kuhns (1870-1901), son of W. Eugene Kuhns / Kuntz (see Kuhns website, above) and Carolina Baer. They had my grandfather Harold Eugene Kuhns in 1894.
After William G. Kuntz/Kuhns untimely death in 1901. Mamie married John J Mc Jeskey in Grand Haven, Michigan in 1906. (It was common for Wisconsin couples to take a ship from Wisconsin over to Michigan to get married, as the marriage laws were less strict there). The couple lived in Milwaukee.
Harold Kuhns married Edna Jeanette Paulus. They had my father William G. Kuhns on 04/26/1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Harold passed away in 1969; Edna passed away in 1973.

Michael Mann / Barbara Binder / Philomina Mann: A Genealogy Mystery
Margaret’s father Michael, and her mother Barbara Binder, present a mystery. Margaret (Margaretha) was born in 1825. According to German church records, she was the daughter of Michael Mann and Barbara Binder. HOWEVER, thepassenger log in October, 1840 of the ship Solomon Saltress, sailing out of Rotterdam to New York, has Margaret and several siblings arriving with her father Michael Mann and his wife Philomina Mann.
Research on the family shows a sister, Caroline, on the 1850 Watertown (Dodge County, near Milwaukee) census, but no other children from Germany (one son, Valentine, is listed as being born in Pennsylvania in about 1844). More research needs to be done on the Mann / Binder line.
